Yeah, I think that's a lot of it - or maybe that her id-fic is getting mixed up; she really wants there to be a world with highly-paid, happy courtesans and love as thou wilt but she also really really wants her standard shame and compulsion and it doesn't quite fit.
I mean, Delaunay was probably the best choice she could possibly have for a master, but he was still a person who thought the best solution to his problems was buying other people, so there is still plenty of fucked-up there. And also yeah I saw no evidence that he's actually any good whatsoever at intrigue.
