I've also noticed that in fantasy there's often an aversion to established relationships. Someone has to Go Somewhere New and Meet New People! It's a lot rarer to have a fantasy story that happens, say, within a mile of where someone was born, full of people they've known since childhood. Even though I think that could be super cool.
