I find it extremely suspect that *only* the soldiers in the red jackets would rape, pillage, burn, loot and whatnot but the other soldiers are *magically* virtuous because they have Divine Destiny or something on their side.
Indeed, I can assure you: you find it suspect because it's really, seriously not true.
(And the reality sort of meets in the middle: the British soldiers were nowhere near as bad as the US Foundation Myth claims, and the Revolutionaries were nowhere near as good. It was a war, and both sides pretty much behaved the way people do in wars; prior to the war there was more bad behaviour by the British soldiers because they had more power, and after the war there was a shitload of bad behaviour from the victorious Revolutionaries, because they had more power.)
