i haven't seen the movie (yet), but all the confusion over the bees has puzzled me mightily, because bees are a big trope associated with Queen Victoria in Victorian pop culture - she's the honey-sweet queen of the industrious empire/hive, Ruskin's busy tying gardens to femininity to queening. the Wachowskis playing with the trope makes total sense.
