Yes! I mean, it's wacky and ridiculous, and I admit I expected bees to be more of a consistent plot thread through the thing, but it's perfectly in keeping with the rest of the worldbuilding. It's totally a hard SF space opera movie, just with the wish-fulfillment and sparkly trappings running along different lines than what one usually gets. Which, of course, is a large part of the delight of it.
