Where is everybody? The 'most recent 20 entries' on my reading page has a total of eight comments, and one of them is by me.

Anyway, around here all the talk is still EARTHQUAKE. I have realized what the problem is, guys: it's Thor fanfic. After all, we all know the Lokasenna, we all know what causes earthquakes: Loki trembling in his chains when Sigyn cannot keep the poison from him. And we all know how Loki ended up in that predicament: that's right, spreading scurrilous stories about the sex lives of the Aesir. So I predict more odd earthquakes so long as that remains an active fandom. :P

Meanwhile, I am mostly hoping that Hurricane Irene does not topple over any already quake-weakened structures. And other people are praying that she hits northern North Carolina hard enough to put out the 6,000 acre wildfire that's been burning mostly uncontrolled for weeks and sending smoke plumes as far north as Maryland, and maybe incidentally also breaking their third summer drought in three years. Meanwhile, up here, we've had five inches of rain in the past week, all of it in severe thunderstorms, including the lightning that hit the house across the street (it took out their FIOS and turned off their A/C, that was all) and they're predicting another severe storm system, possibly including large hail, later this week. Before the hurricane. I like living here! It's exciting. At least this week it is.

I hadn't heard about there being cracks at the Red Castle!

It's not surprising, in retrospect, given how old the Castle is. But still, sad and worrisome.

Well, when you think of it, a lot of those school building were designated as shelters in case of nuclear war back in the day -- they're probably massively overbuilt in some ways, at least the older ones.

Mm. I just got off the phone with Mother, who pointed out that I haven't actually spoken with her in weeks (we've had enough work and household crap going down that by the time I get home in the evenings, I just haven't had the energy to have one more physical conversation).

So maybe it's going around.

So it's not just my reading page that's been quiet? That's both comforting and not. Between fandom and the natural disasters it's causing (your theory: I choose to believe in it), everyone must be too busy for conversation.

I hope the things going on continue to be exciting for you! I'm envious of the storms, I have to admit.

I wonder how much is because people are gearing up for school.

I have to admit, most of my reading page is filled with woe.

Better than the theory that everyone was dreaming and missed the kick. :P

For me, people stopped commenting so I stopped posting pretty much anything other than pictures of my dog, and I think the only people who care about those also see them on twitter. :/

I like wild weather, but perhaps not quite so much of it all at once. Your theory about it makes so much more sense that any other god-related one I have ever seen.

Yeah, I hope it stays at the level of intensity that doesn't cause damages.

I have... 100° weather.

You know, I realized that after posting. I keep attempting not to complain about our weather given what y'all have been going through, heh.
