Loose Lips Sink Ships

Okay, caved, and have now caught up on my flist. That didn't take very long (the losing willpower bit, not the reading 580 lj posts, that took about thirty-six hours). So to some actual comments on HBP itself.

My opinion of Snape and his loyalties has not changed at all. In fact, it has not changed *ever*; it runs along the lines of 'JKR is doing a great job of keeping him ambiguous.' However, from now on I will be using [livejournal.com profile] zodiaccat's phrase and simply saying that Snape swings both ways. q-:

And the ships! Oh, my, this was the best book so far for shippage. 'Ships that I've 'shipped for ages getting much closer to canon, 'ships that I've wistfully considered but never taken seriously get a nod in canon for the first time, 'ships that I love not getting as fubared as I expected them to be ... oh, la!

Ships I've long supported and now feel vindicated in:

Fat Lady/Violet: Kids, if you wake up with a hangover in the same bedframe as your best friend, and immediately start preaching the benefits of abstinence, this is *not* simply a reference to the evils of alcohol. Thanks.

Slytherin/Griffindor: A *gold* locket. A *silver* sword. Exchanging lovers' tokens, anyone (even if only of the non-eros manly love sort--)? Visions of [livejournal.com profile] araminta_mp's Hogwarts uniform dancing in my head. And I can't get enough of the way this year's Sorting came out.

Hermione/Books: Yes, everybody, it is now canon: Hermione is aroused by the smell of new books! Anyone want to guess what she was going to say next?

Ships I support wholeheartedly now that they have actual canon evidence:
Filch/Pince: Okay, I was a bit upset at the way JKR *utterly* raped Pince's character, snapping at Harry like that over the book when there's been *much* worse mutilation in canon and she's never gone spare, but if she was in a rough patch in a new relationship I see it. And adults having lives that have nothing at all to do with Harry's-- this is growing up, folks. Also I just love that Pince and Filch are getting some, as who wouldn't, and I do really see them being happy together.

Draco/Myrtle: I love Myrtle. I hate that everyone's so mean to her. And yet she just keeps moaning on. She's like the anti-Luna. And Draco is *perfect* for her! I don't see why I've never noticed this before. Draco can give her plenty of empty compliments, she can fuss over Draco's sorrows, they can spend most of the time completely wrapped up in themselves and be incidentally cruel without being evil, Voldemort can't threaten to kill her again, she has that "coincidental" physical resemblence to Harry... it's perfect. I want a Harry/Myrtle/Draco love triangle as he jealously tries to win her back from him.

Dumbledore/Petunia: It is obvious to anyone capable of reading the subtext in their conversations, even moreso than in OotP, that they were carrying on an x-rated correspondence for *years* after Harry arrived. I've read several fics along these lines, but it's so much more *obvious* post-HPB; I am currently try to figure out a premise to write one myself.

'Ships that I totally expected to be elimitated by the new canon, but weren't:
Tom/Trelawney: Still no actual canon interaction, but the new character information revealed merely cements my certainty that they were dating at Hogwarts, yay!

Molly/Lucius: Molly and Arthur eloped rather scandalously during the war years, she's extremely upset that her *eldest son* is marrying a Veela.. I cling to my belief in this 'ship, people, cling.

Fudge/Pettigrew: Yay! Neither of them got very much action in HPB, and still no scenes together, but what was shown of them is very encouraging to my interpretation of this 'ship-- especially Fudge's suprisingly graceful capitulation.

So, in conclusion: 'ship yay; Snape yay; all my favorite wips are either strengthened or untouched; the Horcrux thing is *totally* lame, since it's been the last resort of every evil wizard from Sauron to Magg and I expected something less cliche from ol' U-No-Poo, although considering in OotP he turned into a giant snake that may have been a bit much to expect. alas. Still love the book though. Everything eles I remarked on has been discussed to death already.

ETA, apropos of nothing: I wish I were an Obi-Wan Kenobi, that is what I really want to be, 'cause if I were an Obi-Wan Kenobi, everyone would be in love with me!
