So I ventured out today to buy stuff. Almost $85 for yet another textbook (hopefully the last except the one I had to order online) and two ink cartridges. I also got the New Frontier TBP, because ever since I saw
Incredibles I've been wanting to read some of the DCU's take on that storyline, and I happened to know it was one of very few standard-continuity DC books at the bookstore.
I also stopped by the library. They actually had
The Other Wind and
Tales From Earthsea! Wow! Now I have something resembling an excuse to put off my
earthsea_fic for another few days. I also looked up comics just for kicks, however, and was disturbed to find that they only had about two feet of shelf space for the greatest American art form. But since I was there I thumbed through a book on black superheroes to see if I could find out more about Static, and they made him sound like he's even more fun in the books, shockingly. q: And that Milestone in general was the greatest thing since whole-wheat bread. It generated some interestingly meta-ish thoughts, but mostly it made me decide that if I was actually going to start seriously collecting comic books, I would start with trying to find the whole run of
Static.
It doesn't even look like it's overpriced, assuming you can *find* it-- which how I like my collectibles: Rare, yet cheap.
Too bad Good thing I don't have an e-bay account. Which reminds me: I still have to get that gift card to redeem so I can spend all my Amazon Christmas money.
Talking to boys about comics is weird.
Edit: Ooh, I knew I had other stuff I wanted to say! Re: the poll in the last entry. Only one fandom-y person guessed it right. Is this because fandom people are *less* fond of juvenile tricks that my RL friends? Say it ain't so!
Edit 2: Also, if you read
officialgaiman, go wave at Neil. (;
Edit 3: Okay, I put on Sci-Fi friday. And I was going to comment how one thing which annoys me on BSG is that the costumes appear to be modern-day clothes, off-the-rack. However, this pales beside the revelation that Commander Adama had a *Reader's Digest Condensed Book* on his desk. In a close-up. Dude, they're not even *trying* anymore.
