melannen: Commander Valentine of Alpha Squad Seven, a red-haired female Nick Fury in space, smoking contemplatively (default)

schway.

This is (yet another) random stuff entry.

Does anyone else have fandom feedback come in fits and spurts? I'll go months without anything, and then three good reviews - out of nowhere - in twenty-four hours. It's never just one at a time. Also, it's never when I needed cheering up anyway. q:

[livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust? So, in your many studies, have you come across an answer to this? 'Cause now I'm actually curious.

[livejournal.com profile] obsessed1 asked her flist for mp3's of songs that we want people to forever associate with us. (I think that's a meme thingy actually, but when have I actually done one of them *right*?) So, since I yousendited anyway, here's the link for any of y'all what want it: The Statler Brothers - Flowers On The Wall.mp3. (And if the Melannen Theory of Linguistic Foreshortening is true, and it stays as popular as it has been, then yousendit will become abbreviated to an easily verbable form of less than five letters within six months. Watch this space.)

Because anyway it's a really cool song, and it's one of my *favorite ever* and it probably should be required listening for anyone who actually wants to put in the effort to be my friend in a real-life sort of way. . . and I don't care if it's actually meant to be bitter and ironic, because I usually *am* having quite a time. Except replace "smoking cigarettes" with reading fic. q: Also someone on my flist ([livejournal.com profile] maboo actually) just posted about counting flowers, so yay. And if my flist wants to leave their own 'this is me' songs in comments, with mp3 or not, that would be schway.

On that note, I've actually been making an effort lately to be slightly less shy and reclusive, on lj and elsewhere. Bet you didn't notice, eh? 'Cause even with an effort I'm barely here. But I've also been fiddling with the flists and layout and mood theme stuff, and if I just added you, Hi! I think you're awesome! and if I just delisted you, I seriously doubt you noticed, or else I wouldn't have delisted you. Also, I know this will disappoint certain people, but the leather!catsuit!icon was only intended for Alice day, so it has gone away now that I've got a new outfit fixed up. Sorry. q: And I finally caved and turned on e-mail comment notification for this account, so there's a somewhat higher chance of getting timely replies from me now.

Ever since [livejournal.com profile] regyt posted it, I've been on WeBoggle as dvorak_handicap off and on, if anybody sees me there q: I'm not that great playing the computer way. And I've decided to make an effort to be on aim/icq/possibly y!m if I bother to get it working, on Thursday and Friday after seven, unless I'm going out or something, which happens oftener than you might think, or I actually get a job. Because a dose of conversation every week or so works amazingly well at keeping me undepressed.

Hi Mom! Yes, I'm working hard in all my classes! Honestly! And doing other important stuff like applications and laundry and eating food! Yes!

I'm also actively working on... hmm. My [livejournal.com profile] earthsea_fic challenge story and my [livejournal.com profile] timfinity challenge story, which are sort-of done, as in they have something resembling an ending and are past the minimum length, but they should be longer, and also need a good canon-checking. And the XF-spandex story, which is sort of for a challenge, if the one [livejournal.com profile] phoenixchilde started is actually happening. And, yes, still the It's A Wonderful Life vampire AU, just because. And the i-love-you-scary-bat-god story that started writing itself today. And if those get finished, next in line are the two Eastery fics I've been putting off (And they're all gen! Hah!). . . . plus all my other WiPs of course, and the ongoing attempt at web page update, and the original story I was sort of hoping to give a good hard revision and actually submit to an anthology, and also the lit mag people are nagging me to submit poetry again.

yay!

And if I start any projects other than those and schoolwork, somebody needs to come up to my room and slap me with a trout.

OMG! Someone on your friendsfriends also thinks that in Tori Amos's cover of "Landslide" she says "and if you see my erection in the snow-covered hills!" (Or, at least that it sounds like it.) Reading friends' friendsfriends is usually interesting, but I've never made such an important discovery! Amazing!

Whee! I've been reading communities' friendslists lately (becaues they tended to be more of a theme) and the most interesting thing I learned was about the proper usage of y'all vs. ya'll vs. all y'all, which I never knew before and made me very excited.

[identity profile] frey-at-last.livejournal.com 2005-02-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ya'll" is proper in certain circles? Odd!

And get this-- [livejournal.com profile] labellementeuse, ostensibly a friend of one of your friends, has the same default icon as *my* friend [livejournal.com profile] sophysduckling. Wonders never cease!

[identity profile] melannen.livejournal.com 2005-02-01 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently 'ya'll' is only correct as a contraction of 'y'all will' -- 'ya'll fall down that well if y'all ain't more careful' -- like that. I'd seen the usage before but never really noticed it.

Ah, the fun of friends' friends' friendsfriends.

*looks up* Some people have too much time on their hands, and should go write fic. d-;

Believe it or not, I *have* heard the answer to that question before. And, if I'm not *completely* mistaken .. *screws up face trying to remember* .. I *think* the answer was that tampons work just fine. So. Yep.

.. is your new avatar wearing *sunglasses*? oh. no. That's your eyebrow. d-: Honest mistake.

Weboggle looks nice and distracting. Hmm.

[identity profile] melannen.livejournal.com 2005-02-01 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So, with capillary action and stuff? That makes sense. Does that mean you'd have to use tampons, or would it just sorta float out anyway?

And how on earth did you read that as sunglasses? It's a weird mutant eyebrow, yes, because I always put the face on last and in a rush, but sunglasses?
ext_1512: (archie writes)

[identity profile] stellar-dust.livejournal.com 2005-02-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrug* They work the same way tampons always work. Expands when wet to fill a space, absorbs blood'n'guts, gets removed and disposed of. No particular unusual capillary action necessary. Probably the people on that thread are right and it would be pushed out by muscular contractions, or just by movement around the station. You could clean yourself with water and get most of it out, and there are suction thingys that have been invented, I think, that could probably work.

But I suspect that most lady astronauts have simply used tampons, and been fine. And then there's always hormone treatment to avoid it entirely; I bet a good percentage of them are on some form of pill.

It's wrap-around/VISOR sunglasses. The mutant eyebrow is the top of it, and your actual eye blends in with the earpiece so - yeah, anyway. My face is over 2 feet away from my monitor. d-:

*I* won a round of weboggle. Nyah.

And, I just caught up with the new Tommy stuff from XF-Men. Go. Write. More. Now. Darn. You.

Omiword. I was cruising your (Kristen's) f-page, read this comment, looked through [livejournal.com profile] melannen's friends-friends page until I found it, and you are *so right*! And *we* are so right, about the song lyrics! Will wonders never cease.

(P.S. This -- the 'erection' lyrics thing -- gets the oddest coincidence of the week award. Even over the bunny thing.)

I'm consistently losing! Booo!

Wow, I must be weird, I have *never* heard the lyrics that way. I guess because "reflection" actually *makes sense* in context. d-; Sort of. More than "erection" anyway. Though I guess hills are sort of .. shaped .. ew.

Never mind.

Because *every* variation of X-something has already been used by Marvel at some point. q: bah.

q-: (http://www.metalandmagic.com/)

See, I would have assumed an 'erection in the snow-covered hills' was, like, a snowman or a snow fort or something. Because I am not that twisted, obviously.

CSM looks like he's balancing a ruler on his nose in that icon.

Why don't you just call them The X-Files? because that's what they are.

Darn regulations

[identity profile] theemptylife.livejournal.com 2005-02-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Due to a recent regulation regarding the subjects of "Songs that describe me" I am required to state that my This Is Me song is Stinkfist by Tool.

Whether or not this is accurate is for you to decide, but the lyrics are a trip.

Heh. That's, like, the exact opposite of the song I put up.

What prompted the establishment of a regulation? O.o

Because they're not just a number on a folder somewhere! They're *people*, people with feelings just like us, and most of them even bleed the same color! And convincing the American pubnlic of that is going to be the main job of their PR person. So that would not be a good name. q:
