catch me if I'm falling

Snow! Big fluffy flakes! The icky road-tar-colored snow all over campus is getting a nice touch-up of white.

Yep, I'm back on campus, sitting at my computer at my (*gasp* *shock*) desk. Friday was (very sad) my last day of volunteer work.... I scanned the entire nonfiction collection and came home covered with the spiky gray dust of books that are never read.

Saturday was a snow day. I have come to the conclusion that around here, snow days don't really have anything to do with there being dangerous amount of snow on the road; it's just that everybody believes they're entitled to one or two days of holiday every winter, to spent inside with a fire and blankets and warm drinks and old movies and snowmen.

Coincidentally, other than the few hours I was shovelling and doing laundry, I spent Saturday inside with a fire and blankets and warm drinks and Mom's MASH dvds. There are things I could say about season one MASH -- like since when does Radar drink bootleg gin and stolen brandy?, and pwhoar are those early episodes heavy on the ho-yay and the misogyny. But I really should have been packing, but there was snow, so I had an excuse to take the day off.

Instead, I spent all day Sunday cleaning and packing, since Pastor decided to take a winter day and cancelled church. He didn't even check to see if the roads and the parking lot were plowed, he just decided to use the snow as an excuse for taking a day off-- and they were fine, as I know since Mom and me got up and went anyway, since he didn't put the cancellation on radio, only the TV, and since when is that allowed? So. Much packing and cleaning. I had this pile of *stuff* about four feet high on my bedroom floor, and it's now all tucked away, yay, and class doesn't even start till Wednesday, and I think I'm going to spend tomorrow in the library.

Edit: Oh, and somewhere in there I read Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, which I brought home as one of the two-dozen books which were my salary for volunteer work, and re-read Lieutenant Hornblower, and searched all over for Beat to Quarters, which seems to have gone missing since the last time I read it, unless it's under my bed here ... nope. Hmm. My main reaction to Midshipman is, *that's* the Kennedy who is in practically ever Hornblower fic ever written? He gets a total of two lines! Agghh! If they needed somebody his own age for him to be snarky with in the movies, they should have used Mr. Midshipman Bracegirdle, who at least has something resembling a personality and seems to be Horatio's special friend, to the extent that he has friends before Lt. Bush. Plus, they'd both be hobbitses! Argghh! (Also, am going to be very tempted to pick up another Hornblower book when I go buy my textbooks.)
