I will finish the trip report sometime. I promise. For now, I just want to add that on Sunday, I gained possession of a Fang of Baelin. Not just *any* Fang of Baelin, of course; this one has a Mysterious Past and came to me through Unexplained Events!
I was sitting here playing with it (well, picking the black lacquer off with my fingernails) and it occured to me that I've never before owned an actual weapon. Well, knives, and a variety of blunt objects, but never anything made for the sole purpose of being a weapon. It's a very odd feeling, to suddenly realize that yes, I own a weapon. You could skip the Vimes-y bits without losing much and it works very well as a stand-alone. I did think the ending was a bit too pat, but then I also keep thinking very bad thoughts about the second generation, the sons of our intrepid-if-unconventional heroes. That is, William the swordsmith and young Jack . .
